The musical phenomena that is Madeon, the French DJ/producer who's been touted as the next Deadmau5, continues to permeate his way through popular culture, with a little help from Novation's Launchpad and Zero SL MkII, and the power of YouTube.
In the video that's taken the online world by storm, Madeon triggers clips and controls parameters in an Ableton session of epic proportions. The mashup comprises segments from 39 songs, all perfectly tempo- and key-matched. At the pinnacle of the video, he performs a synth solo using a custom map built in the Launchpad's User 1 mode. Madeon is the perfect example of the modern-day DJ/producer. With his Launchpad and Zero SL MkII setup, he has full control over all aspects of his Ableton Live session, allowing him to improvise with the different parts of his arrangement. What's really amazing is the simplicity of his setup; with just two Novation hardware controllers, a laptop and Ableton Live, he is able to create what one YouTube viewer called "The most amazing musical live performance I have ever witnessed."
