Google's New Music Streaming Service - YouTube Music.

Launching on May 22nd, YouTube announces its new music streaming service, YouTube Music.

Music on YouTube is BIG. Super big. Over 1 billion people visit YouTube every month for music and 2 million artists use YouTube to share their music and art with their fans. But, streaming from their channel has never been that easy (and by that we mean, actually quite complicated and clunky). In their attempt to get around that, YouTube will launch their new music streaming service, YouTube Music (aptly-named), on May 22nd.

YouTube announced that the new music service will offer a free, ad-supported option as well as a premium version, available on subscription from $9.99 per month. Launching first in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea, it will then gradually become available in 14 other countries, including the UK (YouTube haven't said when).

YouTube claims that the new service will make, “the world of music easier to explore and more personalized than ever”. Even if you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, the search will work with lyrics and descriptions (“hipster song with the whistling” - YouTube actually said this) and they state that the platform “dynamically adapts to provide recommendations based on people’s listening history, where they are and what they’re doing”. At the airport? You’ll get flight music. Going to the gym? Beats to get your heart rate going.

How will it differ to Google Play?

YouTube Music will have a HUGE library. Not just containing all the official releases, albums and playlists, but it will still host the endless remixes, parodies, live streams and covers. Artists with and without record deals. Those versions of tracks that you can’t ever find anywhere else.

YouTube Red will also be rebranded as YouTube Premium and this will come with included access to YouTube Music.
